Mission

Create an online resource for global life sciences organizations aimed at teams within those organization imbed proven UX research, design, and evaluation methods into their work building tools and capabilities for research scientists and other key users. Highlight real life sciences examples, practical guidance, and basic templates.

UX Toolkit for Life Sciences

Result

Detailed comparative analysis of similar online resources, iterative prototyping, and extensive user feedback led to the design and launch of a public site (https://uxls.org) that’s tailored to fill a unique need across the global Life Sciences UX community.  The UX Toolkit for Life Sciences is the most popular resource of many offered by the sponsoring organization, the Pistoia Alliance.

Mission

In partnership with cybersecurity and insider risk experts at MITRE, develop an ethical,  human-centered “thinking tool”, based on internal user research that focused on identifying concerning behaviors and key assets.  This involved innovative use of proven user research methods paired with data-driven analysis and groundbreaking creativity.

Insider Risk “Thinking Tool”

Result

Initial set of Insider Risk Personas researched, designed, and packaged for internal pilot.  Invited to present this novel approach and preliminary work at the Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center (H-ISAC) conference to highlight human-centered ways to sense insider risk as a complement technology-driven sensors.

Mission

Develop a standard process, supporting templates, and case study examples for running task-based usability reviews, including guidance on planning, conducting, analyzing data, and reporting findings and recommendations.  Train teams and individuals across the organization to successfully execute usability reviews on their own to benefit from the direct involvement of their users.

Usability Review Process & Templates

Result

Set of materials developed including usability review planning resource, facilitation guide, participant guide, Miro board for analysis of data and insights, and reporting templates.  Further extended with case study examples from internal usability reviews, training materials, and practical guidance.   Used extensively by the centralized UX team and others across the company to conduct more than 40 usability reviews.

Mission

Create a core set of well-researched personas to drive UX work for key project teams and to serve as a strategic resource to be leveraged across the company to create a foundational understanding of core roles and work.  Mixed-methods user research techniques included in-depth interviews, contextual inquiry, work shadowing, and analytics.

Persona Library

Result

Series of role-based, work style, and accessibility  personas developed, enhanced, and maintained over time.  Established the model and internal benchmark for communicating key insights from in-depth user research in a way that was clear, relevant, and useful to dozens of teams.
